Berjaya Group, led by billionaire Tan Sri Vincent Tan, expresses strong interest in the development of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail, as well as other railway-related projects in Malaysia. To facilitate its ambitions, the group has established Berjaya Rail Sdn Bhd.
Berjaya Land Berhad (BLand), a subsidiary of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, aims to make a significant impact in the rail industry through this strategic move. In a statement, the real estate developer emphasizes its commitment to enhancing the country's transportation infrastructure.
BLand plans to participate in the request for information (RFI) exercise initiated by MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd, which operates under the Ministry of Finance Malaysia. By engaging in this process, Berjaya Rail aims to contribute its expertise in the construction of railways and subways, the design and installation of railway systems, the development of transit-oriented properties, and the provision of consulting and training services for related technical solutions.
To lead this venture, Farizul Baharom has been appointed as the director and chief executive officer of Berjaya Rail. With a distinguished career that includes serving as a special adviser to the Transport Minister, heading the project management office for LRT3 at Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, and holding key positions related to cross-border rail projects, Farizul brings invaluable experience to the table. His background spans roles in the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister's Department, Prokhas Sdn Bhd, and The Attorney General's Chambers Malaysia.
Farizul will be supported by a highly skilled board of directors, comprising accomplished leaders in engineering, finance and banking, property development, and bilateral cross-border negotiations for transport infrastructure and services. Their collective expertise positions Berjaya Rail for success in its ambitious railway endeavors.
